Shock Over How Many Keys Tourists Need To Enter Apartment: ‘Scenic Route’

Two American tourists have amazed the internet after revealing the unexpected route they have to follow in order to get to the apartment they were staying in.
Many people love the quirks that come with renting a property during a vacation, but a video posted on TikTok by Maggie Olejnik (@maggie.olejnik) has revealed the unusual entry to get into their rental property in Rome, Italy.
If you’re thinking it required two (maybe even three) keys to get inside, think again. Indeed, the property required five keys, an elevator ride, going up a flight of stairs, a walk across the terrace, and a flight down some more stairs. Only after completing that lengthy journey did the tourists finally arrive at their doorway.
The hilarious video has both delighted and stunned internet users, leading to more than 2.2 million views and over 158,000 likes on TikTok already.
Even with all the walking in between doorways being sped up, the viral video is still 90 seconds long, showing just how long the process takes in total. Nevertheless, the sisters continued to laugh about the unusual circumstances that were required in order to reach their “home sweet home.”
Despite all the obstacles and lengthy journey just to get back inside, the TikToker even joked that they can lock the apartment from the inside “if that wasn’t enough keys” already.
Traveling abroad on vacation can mean different things to each individual. For some, they prefer to lounge by the pool and hardly move for a week, while others opt for non-stop activities to take in as much culture as possible.
With this in mind, it comes as no surprise that where you stay is equally as important. A poll by YouGov in 2021 revealed that 48 percent of U.S. adults would prefer to stay in a hotel on vacation, whereas 14 percent would choose a homestay, such as Airbnb. An additional 14 percent were indifferent and would happily stay in either.
Homestay trips were more popular among younger generations, however, as 21 percent of those aged 18-24 would choose one, and 18 percent of 25-34 year olds. Contrastingly, just 9 percent of those aged 55 and over would prefer a homestay.
After the video showing what Olejnik had to do in order to get into the rental apartment in Rome, social media users were quick to make jokes about the extensive route.
Among the 3,100 comments on the TikTok video already, one comment reads: “It takes 5-7 business days to reach the bed.”
Another person added: “Are you still in Rome by the time you get to the apartment?”
“Is this the scenic route?” asked one TikTok user.
While another TikToker responded: “Are you sure this isn’t an Escape Room?”
